Shorts On Tap is landing in Venice for the first time with a short film programme focusing on the ‘return to real life’.
‘Back to Life’ is a celebration of the ‘joie de vivre’, of cinema itself, and our first in-cinema event since the beginning of the global pandemic.
Join us this August 13th for a selection of top-notch shorts from all over the world at the magical outdoor cinema in Campo San Polo, Venice.
The event will be hosted by Mattia Berto.
The screenings will be followed by Q&As with attending filmmakers.
Special guest: actress Emma Quartullo, presenting the short film ‘Cose da Uomini’ (‘A Man’s Game’) by Silvia Cadoni.

About our host Mattia Berto:
Mattia Berto is an actor, director and artistic director. Most of his productions take place in his beloved city: Venice. He was artistic director at Dario Fo Theatre in Camponogara, and he’s currently artistic director at Teatrino Groggia, Venice. The latter represents a unique experience of urban regeneration of the area.
The strong conviction that the theatre must be an instrument of social investigation as well as a place for the community, has recently brought Mattia to theorise his “Teatro di Cittadinanza” (“Theatre of Citizenship”), which, in sinergy with Teatro Stabile del Veneto, has helped revitalise various areas of the city.
In this new idea of total inclusion and sharing, citizens of all ages and backgrounds become actors.
One of Mattia’s projects, “Teatro in Bottega” (“Theatre in the Shop”) has also been presented in Florence and Cortina D’Ampezzo.
The project has been selected by Feltrinelli for the TV format “We are culture”, directed by Giuseppe Carieri, focusing on the talents who create culture from scratch.
Mattia’s Teatro di Cittandinanza has been selected by the UK Pavilion at Biennale Architettura 2019 with its performance “Tempesta la Resa dei Conti”.
In recent years Mattia has been experimenting with video – shooting a number of documentary films in the most diverse settings: spanning from the islands of the Venice lagoon to local prisons, from the streets to high-end boutiques – never losin

Shorts On Tap sbarca a Venezia per la prima volta con una rassegna di cortometraggi sul ‘ritorno alla vita’ titolata ‘Back to Life’.
Una vera e propria celebrazione della ‘joie de vivre’ e dell’amore per il cinema, ‘Back to Life’ vuole portare una ventata di positività e leggerezza dopo quasi due anni di pandemia e lockdown.
Nel contesto magico del Cinema All’Aperto in Campo San Polo, presenteremo una selezione di cortometraggi da tutto il mondo, il cui filo conduttore é il superamento delle avversità, la capacità di adattamento ad un momento difficile, ed il ritorno al sorriso.
L’idea di Back to Life è scaturita proprio dal lento riaffacciarsi alla vita sociale, nonché dalla riapertura dei cinema, ormai imminente.
Le proiezioni dei corti saranno seguite da una sessione di domande e risposte fra i registi presenti ed il pubblico.

Il nostro presentatore Mattia Berto:
Mattia Berto e’ un attore, regista e direttore artistico. Gran parte della sua produzione artistica si svolge nella sua amata città: Venezia. È stato direttore artistico del Teatro Dario Fo di Camponogara, attualmente è direttore artistico del Teatrino Groggia a Venezia. Quest’ultimo rappresenta, sul territorio, un’esperienza di rigenerazione urbana unica nel suo genere.
La forte convinzione che il teatro debba essere uno strumento di indagine sociale e un fatto di comunità lo ha portato, negli ultimi anni, a teorizzare il suo “teatro di cittadinanza”, che grazie alla sinergia con il Teatro Stabile del Veneto, ha animato i luoghi della città.
Cittadini di tutte le età e di tutti i vissuti sono i suoi attori, in un’idea di inclusione totale e condivisione.
Uno dei suoi progetti, “Teatro in bottega”, è andato in scena anche a Firenze e Cortina d’Ampezzo. Quest’ultimo è stato scelto da Feltrinelli per il format TV “Noi siamo cultura”, diretto dal regista Giuseppe Carieri dedicato alle eccellenze che in Italia fanno cultura dal basso.
Il suo Teatro di Cittadinanza è stato scelto dal padiglione inghilterra della Biennale Architettura 2019 con la performance Tempesta la Resa dei conti.
Negli ultimi anni sta sperimentando con il video, girando alcuni docu-film, dalle isole della laguna alle carceri, dalla strada alle boutique delle eccellenze, non perdendo mai il suo sguardo generoso e curioso per la vita della quale è follemente innamorato.
